Default Well, believe what you want, but the guys on the 996 turbo board,

all say that the turbo's engine does need breakin. In fact, some say that breakin continues well beyond the 1875 mi minimum. I pity the next guy that buys a used turbo that's been driven very hard right out of the box. I'm breaking this new car in a little easier than my 1st one to see if I can get the oil consumption down from a qt every 2 tankfuls.

Default that's about par for P-car boxers, isn't it?

i thought it was something to do with low friction rings and extra clearances for high speed / temp operation.

Default Other side of the coin...my '96 sedan was a company car leased from Rector, and when I bought it....

off lease I found out it was originally delivered to my company with 255 miles on it. It burns a quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles. My '98 quattro Avant (12v) was delivered with 12 miles on it, and I don't have to add a drop between 7500 mile changes.
The break-in period is the only difference between the cars.

Default Yep, mine was about middland in it's appetite for Mobil 1

One new Turbo in the shop was having it's 6th qt added at 600 mi. Yes, that's six hundred miles.

Default Not at all familiar with boxster's oil usage. Only 996's and Turbos

996's don't, Turbo's Do!
