Great car and a lot easier on the TB replacement, just to mention.
Very reliable, good HP, good gas milage. I get about 20 city/hwy and about 29MPG on highway, last time I drove from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach.
I am very satisfied with it even thought I would love the Twins in my engine compartment sometimes.
GO with the 3.0 FWD or Quattro waaay before the 2.8

we're talking Porsches, MBs, Audis, from '65 to '01...
Few of the ones on the 2.8 are serious engine-killers in the long run, so like on the M-Bs and Porsches, you choose whether to live with them or not.
My '01 2.8 has 78k, has some leaks, uses less than 1 qt. in 4-5,000 miles and still runs great. It's a time tested engine. The choice vs. 3.0 is a subjective one but I've been happy with the 2.8 for 6+ yrs.
60k is a conservative timing belt change interval, probably overly so, my friend/ indep. Audi/Porsche tech is a very careful guy and says 80k is right, no longer.

I honestly haven't heard of any with the engine itself, all I've heard of is the typical suspension, steering, exhaust type issues that I see on all drivetrains.
