You are wise to step back and rest.
You *will* need the special tool for the cam adjuster/tensioner seals. The tool compresses the tensioner so you can get the seal out. Someone nearby you should have one (they're cheap), so post on your local forum if you need to borrow one.

generic like my PVC union.
Main thing is you don't want to flip the lip when installing the seal but don't be tempted to lube the shaft to get the seal up there.

was measured on the inlet to the suction pump that attaches to the left breather hose at ~17.5 in Hg. From what I have read on-line, that vacuum level is good. The engine only has 69.5K miles on the dial, and never been abused so there is no reason why that seal should weep oil. Given your experience, you have any ideas re: what to inspect that I haven't?
Once I resolve this problem, I will post a complete description and the solution(s) for this PIA problem.

Be careful not to nick your cam journals, I used a small drill to start a whole for two small screws placed 180 deg apart. Then pull on the screws to remove the seal. To install the seal use an appropiate size PVC pipe and tap in flush.
