Default Good point

You know Husker the more I think about it I guess I would replace it too at those miles while I'm in there, proactive PM with the right parts makes one less thing to worry about later.

I usually go to Autozone here locally in the Bay area. Looks like they have on in stock with their in-house brand Duralast with lifetime warranty for $179+tax. I think I will replace it at the same time this weekend.

Default Just me 2 cents

Autozone Duralast electrical reman parts are very chancy and iffy, that life time warranty does not cover your time back in there, I've heard many sorry stories.

NAPA is the best I've found for reman parts vs the many other names around here, here's a Valeo reman example http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...585_0367698546

Regardless of where you get your alternator take the old one with you to make sure they match up. I think there are 2 and maybe 3 that were used for your series. My re-man from Orielly was an exact copy and fit and amperage output. Good luck!

Thanks JC. I will also look into that option. There's NAPA near my house.

Good point. I will probably go with whoever got one in stock. Any manufacturer alternator is probably better than my 130K mileage one.

No problem but do follow Husker's advice too, he is very right.

Finally got the water pump out but not without more problems. while moving the pump to get to the bolt I found a crack on the hose that run from the pump to the engine so will need a new hose. Any sugguestion would be appreciated. Also looks like all the rigid air hose are so brittle that any slight twist will break them so replaced all air hose at the same time.

BTW, looks like either part store I'll have to special order the alternator and they need to know it a Bosch or some other brand in the car. Does anyone know how to identify the part without pulling it out?

So your saying that you did not pull-out the alternator yet?

The brand and part # is on it.

Hey JC, I guess I have to do it now...

The crack I mention is actually the steering pump to the engine not the water pump. The hose is preformed shape not sure I can just use any hose in the same size. Any suggestions?
