Default Can I use DexCool ORANGE Coolant in my A6?

I have a coolant leak that I'm nursing (getting fixed these week) frankly I'm sick of paying $30 a jug for coolant from the Audi Dealership which is way out of the way, btw. I was told today that the ORANGE DexCool coolant is universal, won't gel, plus it's half the price. Does anyone have any input on whether the Orange DexCool is okay to use in our Audis?

Thanks, JR

Default I should clarify...

Can it be MIXED? I'm told by Checker that Orange and Pink can mix without issues, but I've got about as much good info as bad from Auto Parts Stores.

Texaco, the actual producer of the orange, will tell you that when you mix them you simply lose the long life properties of the orange. However, as one who has owned a dex-cool GM product and seen the goop that can percipitate out of it and clog the system, I would never do it in my Audi.

It's $30. Just man up and pay it. I do not run anything but the correct Audi coolant.

Autozone green/white coolant and Dexcool Orange - I talked to my mechanic and he said that these eat at the seals. Thats why its always the best to use the latest G12 Plus+ Coolant.

Gotcha. Talked to a dealer service tech (taken with grain of salt) and an indy tech today. Both said bottomline is the G12 is the "best option". Leading me to believe there ARE alternatives, yet I'm just not going to be the guy to make the post next month/year titled, "Why to truly use G12".

Again, great post. In no way answered my question, but all this time I had not idea to "man up", meant buying the pink stuff...

I don't think any class action lawsuits exist against G12. DEXcool has a few...I would never put that in my car.
