check the wiring diagram: for front seat air bag harness.
1998 plug has two(2) wires
2001 plug has three(3) wires
Question is: what is the 3rd wire for and color.
TIA -

...while the 1998 harness does not have a ground wire in the yellow connector.
Both seats connectors are between the airbag control module (J234) and the ignitor for the side airbags in the front seats (N199 and N200). However, the differences are as follows:
1998 - two wires
1) yellow/green
2) yellow blue
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/reference/seat_airbag_1998.jpg">
2001 - three wires
1) green
2) white
3) brown (ground)
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/reference/seat_airbag_2001.jpg">
Hard to see the actual lettering in this pic (sorry) but hardcopy printed and I can mail those to you (for some reason my print to PDF is not working.)
N199 is the driver side ignitor, in the upper left of diagram. N200 is the ignitor for the passenger side just to the right of N199. You can see the 3rd wire in the 2001 terminating at wire 17, which is continued in the lower part of the diagram at 109 ground connection in airbag wiring harness. The 1998 harness looks like it gets ground indirectly through the crash sensor (G179 and G180) shown in the lwoer left of the diagram.
It should be fairly easy to find a spot to tap into ground (the brown wire). However, I have no idea if the wiring difference will have any impact on whether or not the airbags will deploy properly in the event of a side impact.
Hope this helps!
