You need 4 keys to remove the radio. The keys actually "pull" in the metal tabs inward towards the center of the radio to "unlock." My finger int he picture below is pressing in the metal tab a bit further to "unlock" the key so the key can be removed without damaging the metal tab.
Do NOT pull the loops of the keys to remove the radio. Once all 4 keys are in place (they should click into place), stick your fingers in the cassette slot and pull from there.

I know how you feel. I've had my radio out before and now that I really want it out to install the Ipod adapter two of the keys no longer release anything. They just slide in freely. I'd rip it out bending the metal tabs on the radio and just replace the radio (all of $40) but I can't get a grip on it and don't want to pry on the dash.

If you can, you need to spread the keys away from the center, not towards the center. Once the keys engage (they click when they are in the right spot), you do really need to pull to break the seal, which is why you need to pull from the tape slot, not the keys.
Worse case scenario, find a local radio install shop and have them pull it for you.
