99 2.8 Auto Quattro wagon.

Car does not start intermittenly in Park.

-If the shifter is pushed forward in Park, it'll always start.
-If the shifter is pulled backwards (still in Park), the car does not crank.
-If I pull the shifter back backwards, turn key to crank (car does not crank), and then push the shifter forward, the car will start.

Questions ...
1. Is it a matter of selector level cable adjustment?
2. according to Bentley, that can only be adjusted from the bottom of the car .. can that be adjusted without removing the exhaust , driveshaft, and shift mechanism cover?
3. Could it be the neutral safety switch or multi function switch?
