Default Car is dead, bad transmission?

Hello guys,
I have a 2000 A6 4.2L Quattro.
I have no idea what happened, I had the car for about 40K miles now, and the car is in great shape, also I changed the transmission fluid and filter 40K miles ago when I first bought the car 2 years ago.

These is the symptom.
The transmission shifts totally fine for the past 2 years.
In the past 3-6 months, whenever I start the car (when cold) and put into DRIVE, the car takes about 0.5 sec to engage into gear and feel like very little kick feeling, very small. (I figure the car is old)
Yesterday, I just drove from NYC to upstate NYC, and the car drove fine as well! Driving in city, and also drove to 80mph for 2 hrs.
This morning I drove 5 mins to work, same as usual, all shifting perfectly fine. Then I got off work at 5PM, and I was about 2 miles away from my work when all of the sudden the car goes into NEUTRAL!! RPM goes to like 5K, and the car won't move (just barely)

I stopped the car and turn it off and start again.
I put into DRIVE, it takes like 2 second, then the car KICK badly, so I felt it is engaged, I step on the gas pedal slowly, but RPM keep going up, and after 2-5 sec, the car KICKS really bad (like someone rear end me) and of course the car goes into LIMB MODE instantly.

I cannot even move the car in DRIVE anymore, no power. Cannot even go up a 15 degree incline road. so I tried REVERSE gear, and it is totally fine, engage quickly and drive fine with all power!

Can anyone shine some light onto this problem???
I just left the car in the supermarket parking lot right now.... so sad.
Thanks all!
Greatly appreciated!
Gil

Do you know if a CV joint or shaft broke loose? I'd get under and check that first.

Default Reverse is fine, only Drive is no good!

But Reverse is good, so that cannot be the axle?
BTW, I did looked under the car, and the transmission fluid pan is completely dry outside, and nothing leaking or dripping, so I don't think we ran over something and broke the tranny fluid pan.

Any help?
I left my car like 10 miles away from my house... need help ASAP!
Thanks.

sounds either like the torque converter is slipping, or the clutch packs for first (forward) gear are not being activated. Hydraulic? ECS? who knows?

No codes?

Default Code pulled... no comment!

Hello guys,
I managed to drive to where my car parked (luckily the car is not ticketed or towed) and I pulled the code. And I try to drive the car again, I started the car and put the gear into REVERSE, it drives fine. I put the gear into DRIVE, no choke, no nothing... just nothing! feel like I put the car into NEUTRAL!'
I step on the gas, goes to 2K RPM, nothing.. car won't even move!!!

Default Here are the current situation of the Audi.

Can anyone shine some lights on this? I have no car to use right now. =(

1) I changed the tranny fluid and filter about 30K ago.
2) Looked under the car and see no leak under the tranny.
3) Shift into Reverse & it engage into gear fine, has good power/torque.
4) Shift into Drive, nothing happens, not even the feeling to engage into Gear after 5 second. (just like shifting into Neutral)
5) Pulled the code, and I get Gear Ratio Incorrect.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Otherwise I have to get it towed and the audi is far away from my place (very pricey!)
Thanks all

I'd start running through the output tests and diagnostics for the electronics.

Gil, have you looked at the floor pan to see if it is wet where the TCU is? Speed sensor or wiring to it could be at fault. These can produce the Gear Ratio Incorrect fault. Hoping it's electrical and not a blown tranny.

Thanks for the reply.
I am going to ask someone to drive me to the car again.
Can someone shine some light on how to check the TCU is went?
Do I have to remove the back seats and carpet?
Also what tools do I need?
Thank you so much!
