I am deciding to keep my silver A6 (instead of trading to blue one with less miles) and put some needed money into it (TB, control arm links, etc...).
Anyhow, my car doesn't seem to overheat according to temp guage, but my coolant reservoir has signs of spilled coolant over it.
Any ideas why it would be happening and what is failing? And also, how come my temp guage doens't register irregular temperatures?

I'd get it checked (VAG-COM) to check a few things:
- water temp sensor malfunctioning?
- thermostat failing to open?
what is the temp where you are located? if it's super cool, and you don't drive long/much/spirited, the engine may be naturally cooled through convection with surrounding temp. this past Jan I had my thermostat fail. It was actually 'bitch-a$$ cold outside' so while I lost 'hot air' inside the car, it did not overheat, water temp was fine. But that wknd when the temps rose outside, I made it about 5 miles before my car overheated....
just some thoughts.
