Default Car & Driver was relatively lukewarm about the new S6.

They start the article with a strange complaint that the Audi model line up is confusing and perhaps overlapping. As if the S4 is SUPPOSED to be slower and less sporty than the S6 (it's 2 slower, isn't it?). And then the bulk of the article compares the S6 to the S8.

They make very few direct, tangible comments about the S6, other than to say it rides stiffly.

I don't want to claim bias, but they seemed to be unwilling to really review and address the car's qualities.

Default And, by contrast, R&T really liked it, saying....

....it makes the driver feel somewhat invincible, with impressive torque, immense grip and sure-footedness, and great sounds. They specifically DIDN'T mention the stiff ride that most other reviews have harped on.

A full review is yet pending.

Also, "Bild Auto" just compared the S6 to the M5, and preferred the S6 overall. Not as fast, but a better all-around car, they said. They, along with everyone else, HATED the SMG.

X-post from C6 A6 forum

Default C&D likes conformity

Most articles tell readers what manufacturers want them to hear. I've noticed that C&D often parrots the same things that is in manufacturers promotional material.

I also notice that they rarely like a car that isn't already popular with the general public.

Default Give 'em some credit. They picked the B6 S4 over the M3, C32, C55, and CTS-V

And I think they had the B5 S4 winning over the E36 M3. Everybody loves to reference articles when they're agreeable but claim bias and giving in to ad $$$ when they're not. GM products -- with the exception of the Vette -- get harsh reviews but I doubt anybody spends more on advertising than them.

Default You could be right

but I quit reading C&D in the early 80's. (So what do I know) I occasionally browse through them when I'm at the tire shop but maybe that's not enough of a sample to judge from.

As far as the B6 review, I guess I bought one despite the review :-)

Hard to get a clear idea unless you know where the reviewer is coming from.
