I was able to find the Syntec at Autozone today.
Nowhere on the container does it say it was manufactured in Belgium or Europe or anyplace.
The French translations could be just so it can be marketed in Quebec province in Canada.
It does have the VW 502.00 spec listed and states that it's formulated to VW requirements.
It's not recommended for the Porsche Cayenne?

It's not Euro formula but seems fine.
The debate is whether it's a genuine synthetic. Syntec US uses a hydrocracking process to refine mineral oil into a synthetic-like oil, while Mobil 1 starts with synthetic esters. Mobil 1 sued to try to stop Castrol calling Syntec synthetic. However, nowhere can I find any evidence that Castrol's process produces an inferior product.

The 5w-30 available most places doesn't even mention VW specs but is used by many. The dealer supplied oil during warranty is regular mineral oil of the proper grade, I assume. Do Audi owners including myself attach too much importance to the oil question. All my previous European cars had Castrol mineral in them and never a problem, but it was changed very often.

By right I mean take advantage of the longer life to do less oil changes , I do 7.5K. It also has better cold start properties & better retention of grade when hot. Its worth using just for the gas savings.
