I STFA and many other sites too...
2001 A6 2.8Q-cost to replace both catalytic converters $2,700.00 CEL codes P0420 & P0430
Car has 80,150 miles-150 miles over the warranty period-I always have the car serviced at the dealership where it was purchsed new.
Dealer has offered to pay 2/3 and wants me to pay 1/3 (and we are/were considering a Q7 in the next 12 months or so).
This doesn't seem to be a common occurence either.
MAN THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like they should pay the whole bill. Check out the emissions required warranty.
If not, seems like a pretty reasonable deal considering the miles on the car.

and he told me that he could put on 2 remanufactured cats with labor for about 1100; he told me the OEM's and the deal from the dealership is worth going ahead and doing.
I took it in for the 80k service, and it came back with this!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the timing belt next.
I am going to try and work with the dealer again tomorrow and see what they can do.

Audi has had TSBs out for years that these faults can be attributed to code in the engine computer that has tolerances for the converters that are too tight. This means that the ECU will throw converter codes, even though the converters are still working. Dealers used to love to change converters because they can bill big bucks to change them. Now Audi is actually charging back dealers who changed converters when they actually should have just reflashed the ECU according to the service bulletins issues years ago.
I would DEFINITELY look into this if I were you...
