Happened twice today. Found that if I gave it just a bit of gas it accelerated - too much and it would choke. Also if I did depress the gas much more agreesively - it did accelerate but roughly. The CEL flashes when this happpens, and then stays on.
It reminded me of when the plug wires went bad on my Eagle Talon TSi AWD.
After searching I found the following possibilities:
- bad coil pack,
- bad or dirty MAF,
- bad fuel pump,
- clogged fuel filter,
- clogged EVAP cannister.
The car is a '99 2.8Q with 117k Km (73K miles). No recent motor maintenance. Soon due for timing belt + water pump + thermostat +++
I do have an OBD serial cable and an old laptop - which freezes upon bootup! I'll try and fix it so I can pull the code(s).
Anyone else experience this before?
TIA

is it automatic and does it hesitate to shift? getting bad gas mpg?
if so, i just had the same problem. dirty throttle position sensor. you can clean it yourself, but need the electronic stuff to adapt it back to the computer.
