I just pulled it and shipped it to them. Then re-installed it when it came back. That was 2 years ago now. I would say if the TC is going to go ahead and have the trans rebuilt. But that's just my 2 cents worth.

I have heard that continuing to drive with the 17125 code will eventually take out the tranny starting with reverse. I'm parking mine in the garage until I figure out what to do. Can anyone recommend a good TC rebuilder?

Well, I may be looking at the same.
Did the transmission fluid, filter change this weekend. Almost 5L of black fluid came out, almost 6 L of fresh Redline D4 went back in, cleaned all the crud out of the pan and installed new filter. Apparently new fluid won't fix a leaky seal
It is hard to justify the cost to rebuild at this point, as it shifts smooth, quick and just runs so damn nice with no other issues other than an occasional trip of the check engine light for the torque converter.

I actually had the fluid and filter changed and so far the light has stayed off. We shall see if it returns. According to my mechanic, a plugged filter will cause a transmission oil pressure drop similar to a leaking seal, resulting in slippage. My advice on these things would be to change the oil and filter first and see if that takes care of the problem, before getting into a new torque converter.

I just starting throwing the P0741 code if I accelerate quickly. My 2003 2.7T has 103k on it,l and the transmission fluid has never been changed. If I clear the code, it usually doesn't come back for a couple of days (until I accelerate quickly). I'm thinking that I might just try the transmission fluid and filter change and see what happens.

I had a CEL coding with a stuck valve (perf) in the torque converter ... This is typically a sign of low tranny fluid. Just got the car back from the shop, I had two sets of scorched clutches and a drum with hairline cracks (bad). So $3600 lighter in the wallet and the freshly rebuilt transmission drives great.

They specialize in German cars, an are well versed in the guts of ZF transmissions. They're always taking in cars from all over the country.
They don't rebuild the torque converter in-house, but everything else they do.
