Default Changed MT fluid for Redline MT90/Amsoil 80/90 mix.

The Amsoil is synthetic GL5 with a GL4 rating so should be fine.

The shift is better, especially 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 which were stiff before, now much smoother. 1 to 2 is better when everything is warmed up but still a bit blocky when cold.

I think the synchromesh on 1 to 2 is just a bit weak for the job and it'll never be perfect.

Default Hmm, thanks for the input...with cold weather coming, I might have to do a change as well.

Last winter, 1>2>3 were stiff, while 1>2 and 2>1 were REALLY stiff. :/
Did you just do a 50/50 mix?...what kinda volumes did the trans take?

Default Took about 4 quarts.

Not sure about winter, some people say that MT90 sucks at low temps, not such an issue in CA.

There are 70/80 and 70/85 grades which might be better at low temps but I don't know if anyone on the forum has tried them.

Default What is GL5 with a GL4 rating? If it meets GL5 EP lubricity spec it will also meet the GL4 spec...

but it will be too slick for fast syncro action.
Don't use GL5 in syncromesh trannies!

Default My understanding is that the A6 6MT requires a GL4/GL5 rated lubricant

and it does require the EP rating for the torsen diff.

Would love it if someone could clarify Audi's spec.

Default Most straight GL-5 rated gear oils will be corrosive to yellow metals (i.e., brass) in the tranny

while the dual GL-4/GL-5 rating means that you get the lubricity and protection of a GL-5 w/o the reactive EP components that can attack the synchros.

Motul 300 is a good example of one fluid that meets the Audi spec. Other synthetic gear oils may be good for the diff, but aren't 100% safe for the tranny.
