Default Changed oil to Castrol Syntech 5-40 from Mobile 1 and have valve train noise.

I have been using M1 0-40 since I bougth the car and I tried Syntech 5-40 for a change. Now I have loud valve noise. It sounds like chain noise and alot of tapping. Nothing sounded terminal, just distinctly louder. I drove the car on a road trip and the noise was pronounced at the food stop drive thru.
Has anyone run across this before? The car has quiet down some. i do not think I have gotten use to it.
I have changed the oil for the past 55K every 5K with filter. I was wondering if anyone else has run across this and should I dump the oil and go back to M1?

I doudt that the problem was caused by the different oil.

I agree with you. I cannot see how an oil change would have that effect. I guess I may have a cam adjuster getting flakey.
Thanks for any other thoughts.

Default It can be it. Different brands, different synthetics. Why switch from M1 if it wasn't causing

you problems?

Default I would change back

I use Castrol 5W-50 ever since I bought the car 2 years ago....NO problems at all

Used to have a clunking noise as you described, I guess the previous owner used regular oil.
but after my first change it dissapeared.

Default Syntec 5W-40 made the valvetrain more vocal than Syntec 0W-30

Ahole dealer gave me scheiss about using 0W-30 as a non approved oil (which meets all the Audi & VW standards) on my old 3.0q sedan, and it made immediately more noise.

I run 0W-30 Syntec in the avant and it is quite quiet as compared to the 5W-40. The dealer I go to now says heck it's your car, you can use whatever you like...and said Syntec 0W-30 is a great oil.

I'd change back to M1 0W-40.
