Default Re: Well...

The noise was there after I started the car and for the next 500 miles. The valve train noise seemed to increase 3-4x over the times I used M1. I would descrivbe the noise as increased tappet noise and a chain hitting the valve cover. In the past few days the noise is down to what I am use to.

Perhaps I got a free cleaning from the syntech vs. M1. I doubt it, but I am still confused by the increased noise level.

I will be going back to M1 0-40 when it is due.

Again thanks for the input from everyone.

Default How many miles on the car - it coud be that your lifters ARE bad?? Oil viscosity...

may quite them down but it sure doesn't fix the problem. When lifters go bad they wear out your cams as well so its better to fix them early;-)

Default I'm at 121k on a 4.2 and mine is noisy now at startup...

I never noticed it before but now on cold startups, the valvetrain is chitterclackyclickity... then smooth. The cam adjuster always chattered... hasnt gotten any louder or quieter or less or more but the startup valvetrain noise is noticably louder. I'm changing my oil this evening with the 5W40 Synthetic Syntec and an OEM filter of course. We'll see how it goes LOL

Default Just changed with Castrol 5W40 Syntec last night... all is well this morning...

I had the morning /cold start noise and I thought it might have been the check valves (059 103 175 A) dropping oil pressure from the valvetrain over a length of time but after last nights oil change, this morning was like a new car LOL.

Last night after I dropped in 7 qts and fired it up to cycle the oil thru the filter and re-check the level to top it off, it made a rediculously loud valvetrain clatter for a second then quieted down. I topped the level off and drove home. This morning all was quiet on start up... must have just needed an oil change somethin' fierce haha.
