Default Checkign Oil Level...

So, It keeps appearing that the oil is well over 'max'. When i dry off the dipstick. Dip it in, and pull it out. The oil is ABOVE the max level. However i have a low oil light on my dash. The 'service' then it flashes the oil light once.

I bought a few carts of oil and planned to fill her up.

Do i probably need an oil change?

Default The light can be on because of low oil pressure (I'd be willing to bet that is the case); therefore,

check the oil pump. Changing the oil won't fix the problem...(unless the oil is seriously old and thick as molassas)

Default Too much oil, being whipped into a foam in the crankcase, can cause low oil pressure. Drain oil out

until you are rid of the excess. I'd guess it takes 15 minutes or so from a cold engine to low oil pressure indication.

Default Same symptoms for me; turned out to be a bad oil level sending unit.

Oil level sending unit failure seemed to be a popular problem with early 21st century 2.7t engines. I'd trust the dipstick and be sure not to let the oil level go above the 'full' line on the dipstick. The 2.7t is sensitive to oil overfill with blown seals as a result.

Default

First, get that oil below MAX. Overfilling = bad news.
