Child seat in 4.2?

As parenthood rapidly approaches, my wife & I are considering upgrading our A4 to an A6. We both love the 4.2 (except for the lack of a 6spd), but wonder about getting a car seat in the center of the 4.2 back seat. Anyone out there done this?
After fighting to get the seat into the middle of our allroad's rear seat, I can only imagine what a pain it would be in the 4.2.

Haven't tried the middle seat, but had no problems with the outboard seats. Plus, the outboard seats have shoulder harnesses and the middle seat doesn't (in the sport package). Non-sport has a shoulder harness for center seat.

I thought that the best place for a child seat was in the middle, but the instructions for the infant seat (Even Flo "On My Way") I just installed said something about not installing it in the center seat in cars with center armrests. As most cars have this, I thought this was strange. What have others done with car seats in 2.8s or 2.7s?
