I have a V-Checker Audi/VW/Skoda scanner that looks just like that. Mine is black/silver but everything else is the same. Also only paid about $60 for it new from a U.S. retailer.
It works great. Not a VAG-COM, but much better than a generic OBD II scanner. Will scan all systems and reset the oil/service lights. I use it for a quick check of a CEL or other problem then break out the VAG-COM if more diagnosis is needed. If you only had one scan tool, I would recommend a VAG-COM first, but that scanner will get you by pretty good. Look for cheaper one though.

get this one -- had it in 2-days, didnt fry my ECU. works fantastic with the ross-tech Vag-com software(note* I had to use an older version to get to work) -- but all in all -- its saved me the $350. And serves all my needs CEL, TB adaptation, etc....etc

Yes, still a savings, but not as great as you made it sound. Some of these generic Chinese cables can be very finicky as well. Yours worked out, but many people have had horror stories.

You are incorrect.
the ross-tech unit is $350 for the usb-hex+can(
This was $20 - and I already had a license for VCDS-lite.
So, granted - $120 if you need the VCDS license -vs- $350
All I know is mine works great, you can try it and if its bust your only out $20 and then can go shell out the $350

The Chinese/eBay is rubbish and kind of a cruel tease due to lack of functionality.
Botttom line: VCDS is dirt cheap for what it can do. No VW/Audi owner can afford to be without it
I have to believe it is the best OE-grade tool available at just about any price.

I agree, I have nothing against Ross-Tech, they are great! However we live in the real world here with money problems -- If I can get away with it for $20, or $20+$99 -- then why would you not try that route first.
either way I'm still supporting ross-tech, they are either going to get my $350 or my $99(VCDS lite)
just my 2cent
