clicking noises when you start up?

ok...so i picked up my '04 a couple weeks ago. not sure when this started (could've been day one), but after i start the car, several seconds later, i hear a light click sound (sound is in front of the driver). then, a couple seconds later, i hear another sound similar to car doors locking (but not as loud). that sound is also (seemingly) in front of the driver.
it's not the radio. it's not the power locks (like i said, the 2nd sound is similar, but softer, and the locks stay open).
are these normal sounds, or do i already have something loose?
- someone afraid of things that go "bump" in the night

The light clicking is usually a relay (relays can be found in front of the driver's left knee behind the panel below the steering wheel.
The louder clunk could be the climate control flaps adjusting/closing.
Obviously just a guess.

are these normal sounds? climate control flaps certainly sounds like it, but the relay...is that something loose? or the normal sound of a relay properly "relaying" something?

Generally, it's because something is failing and relay is clicking while it catches the short in the system.
The only time I can recall anyone complaining about a clicking like that it had to do with a faulty heated seat. The heater relay was clicking away because there was a short in the seat. I can't say that is what your problem is, this is just my recollection.
