CLK55 is quicker than S6, but also much more expensive (?)

Default I forgot to mention the brakes. Again the S6 has stronger brakes (more)

although the initial touch feels softer, but thereafter the larger calipers of the S6 feel stronger than the 4.2's. Not a radical difference though.

Default I did test drive an F360 some time ago. Sorry but it's in a different league. No comparison,

different purposes and objectives from respective manufacturers

Default Re: Maybe the answer for us in the USA who would like an S6 Sedan is to

purchase the A6 4.2 either in stock form or with the sport package (depending on seat preference) and then order the S6 shock (dampers) 40% more compression damping and springs, 30% stiffer, put on our preferred wheel and tires and get a Tip chip.

I believe Audi puts the lower gearing in the S6 to make up for the lack of additional Torque over the regular 4.2. I would be happy to give up some snap with the higher gears in order to get the fuel economy. If however, Audi got the torque to 370 ft lbs then I would reconsider. It's the torque from a chipped 2.7T that really gives the car that quick feel.

Depending on how much Audi improved the brakes they may or may not need to be upgraded.

Just some thoughts.

Default The gearing and suspension will make this S feel much different...

In a few months, I will give a U.S. version of Andre's detailed comparo (although it will be Avant vs Saloon). I, unlike, Gerry have not yet been able to order mine (my wifes), although I expect it will be soon.
The 4.2 sport leans heavily toward the excellent handling luxury sedan, I suspect the S6 leans much more toward the sport-sedan/wagon side. The luxury won't be the most prominent aspect (although will be just as high level).

Default I don't think "much" more expensive, but certainly MUCH smaller and DIFFERENT...

2 door ballsy-*** fast coupe vs semi-large sport sedan. Very different.
How much is the CLK55? I thought it was very low $60s, am I wrong? E55 is low $70s.

Could the differential of the 4.2 be changed in order to get a shorther final drive?
