Conclusion to "Bald tires are better on dry roads" thread

Re: When do you replace your tires?
How much tread is left on your tires when you throw them out? Are you more likely to get new tires in the middle of your dry season or at the beginning of your wet season?

Well, theoretically...
...tires with treads and tires without will show identical STATIC slip resistance values. Granted, bald tires have more surface contact area, but the force acting on the tire-road interface is the same while the area is increased, resulting in the pressure per unit area of tire-road contact patch being lessened....so they essentially are equal.
On a similar note, you may say 'but, wide tires grip better than skinny tires, it's because of the contact area, right?' True, because it's a DYNAMIC scenario: The deciding factor is ultimately the dissipation of heat buildup...for instance; if you put a certian lateral force on a skinny tire so as it just starts to move (dynamic friction), the tire is less able to dissipate heat than a wide tire, decreasing it's adherance or stickiness. I'm assuming street compounds are in use here, btw.
So, bald tires may grip better due to thier ability to transmit the same amount of heat through the same material but with a greater contact area.

Re: Are you the one spreading the rumor that my tires are bald?
You are not humbled. In fact you are arogant and for some reason you keep responding like my tires are bald when they still have tread left before I get to the wear bars.

I'd be interested in knowing why you think I'm arrogant.
I looked through all the posts I contributed to that thread, and aside from bringing up what even you agreed were good points, and implying that this decision lacks common sense and therefore you may be messing with us, I don't see where I said anything that came off as arrogant. Even if I did, let me apologize, because although I disagree firmly with your decision, I don't feel like fighting with a fellow A6 owner.
