Confirmed Fact 2002 S6 / S8 has Identical HP numbers
In 2002 Audi listed the S6 as having 340hp & 310 ft lb while the 2002
S8 listed 360hp & 317 ft lb. A long time friend who had just retired from 25 years at the Chicago area parts depo confirmed that the 4.2 in each of those cars is absolutely identical down to the the Bosch 5.7 software and exhaust. He said the only reason Audi showed different numbers was to distance the S8 from the S6 as its flagship automobile for that time period.

S8 exhaust cam differs from c5 S6
The S8 has a different exhaust cam than the c5 S6 from what I recall, giving the S8 the 20 more hp.
