Default controll arm bushing kits

http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MA21032-C

this says its for vins up to 031500 or something like that, my vin is higher then that as i have the 2002 newer version. my question is what different with these bushing versus the ones in my car. dont want to have to replace the entire controll arms when all i need is the bushing, its not like they are bent or anything. and this kit seems to have the correct nu,ber of bushings i need for my suspension. are the part numbers for the bushings the same between the split?

Oh man, you're going to press out all of the old bushings and press in all of the new ones? I can think of two reasons why this is a bad idea.

1)Time savings. You'll be spending more in labor (either someone else's time or your own) than you would just buying a complete kit.

2)Replacing the rubber bushings doesn't do anything about the ball joints, which are a huge part of the problems with the fron control arms. If you're going to go through the trouble of taking the entire front suspension apart, do the WHOLE job so that you don't have to worry about it for another 100k.

1) own my own press, not NEARLY as hard as people make it out to be.

2) front ball joints are fine, as far as i can tell, any way i should be checking them. all the bushing are bad an cracked so i KNOW those need replacing, i just can justify the 700 dolars to replace the arms. though i can justify the spending of 70 on bushing and just replacing the arms with ball joints individually

Control arm kits can be had for under $200 on ebay. (Meyle) Very likely the same quality, if not brand, as what you're looking at.

Regarding the VIN split... I've just been through this. The major difference is in the straight (front, lower) arm. The taper on the end is different to accommodate the aluminum uprights, and the bushings may be different as well. All the other components (complete arms) appear to be interchangeable before and after the vin split.

This is just one example. A simple search on eBay will show many sellers with similar pricing.

Hey 2.7

I was also looking into these the other day and there are some part number differences between the 16" and 17" cars. I think the 17" cars all have the sport suspension so that may be the issue. Here are some part numbers I gathered for mine (2002 with 17" wheels sport suspension).

Bushings
================================================== =================
4B0 407 515 - 4 Rubber mount Top Front and Rear
4D0 407 183 AB - 2 Rubber mount Bottom Rear to subframe
4D0 407 182 G - 2 Rubber mount Bottom Front to subframe
4D0 407 181 H - 2 Rubber mount Bottom Front - to shock

Top Bolt
================================================== =================
N 102 723 02 - 2 shouldered hex. nut,self-locking - M10
N 034 790 7 - 2 screw, hex. hd. M10X100
N 104 061 05 - 2 washer 20X10,5X2

Front Wheel Bearing - Housing
================================================== =================
4B3 407 253 G - 1 wheel bearing housing left - 82MM 17"/18"
4B3 407 254 G - 1 wheel bearing housing right - 82MM 17"/18"
8E0 498 625 B - 2 wheel bearing with mounting parts

Control Arms Complete (Front)
================================================== =================
4B3 407 151 C - 2 control arm Bottom Front 17"/18"
8E0 407 693 Q - 1 wishbone link Left Front Bottom Rear
8E0 407 694 Q - 1 wishbone link Right Front Bottom Rear
8E0 407 505 C - 1 upper link Left Front Upper
8E0 407 506 C - 1 upper link Right Front Upper
8E0 407 509 C - 1 upper link Left Rear Upper
8E0 407 510 C - 1 upper link Right Rear Upper

Got that from here: http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Audi/C5...rt_Numbers.pdf

I just ordered all the bushings myself the other day, so I will put together a DIY to show how easy/hard it is to do.

Here's what it cost:
Qty Part# Desc Unit Total
================================================== =======
2 4F0-498-811-A Audi REP.SET $73.13 $146.26
2 N-906-289-02 Audi BOLT $1.38 $2.76
4 4B0-407-515 Audi RUBB MOUNT $21.89 $87.56
2 4D0-407-183-AC Audi RUBB MOUNT $45.38 $90.76
2 4D0-407-182-G Audi RUBB MOUNT $28.31 $56.62
2 4D0-407-181-H Audi RUBB MOUNT $28.31 $56.62
2 N-102-723-02 Audi NUT $0.69 $1.38
2 N-034-790-8 Audi SCREW $2.06 $4.12
2 N-104-061-05 Audi WASHER $0.19 $0.38
=========
$446.46

I guess I could have saved some money with aftermarket parts, but I figured I am saving on the labour... lol Got it from here: http://audi.bernardiparts.com

Hope that helps

Cheers
Massboykie
