Coolant Display Fluctuates

Hi, just bought a 5 year old Audi A6 2.8 Quattro in UK with 43K miles and FASH. Delighted with it, only one problem. Coolant display sometimes doesn't move from 60 despite some hard driving. Then, sometimes, it moves up to 90 but it sticks mostly at 60. Is this a common fault? Oil temp is fine and when I start up I get an OK on the computer, no faults. Just a bit worried that something sinister is happening as I've only had the car a week. Should I take it to an Audi dealer, it was only serviced three months ago so I'm hoping things should be ok and it's just a dodgy sensor. Any advice?

The part is 3-5 inches below the red arrow in the upper left area of the picture. The steps I followed below resolved my Temp Sensor issue (intermittent). A known issue.
- Remove Cover, Air intake tubes, loosen throttle assembly.
- Locate a BLUE, BLACK, or GREEN fitting (varies) and remove clip, unit, and O ring with thin pliers (and thin long hands...).
- Clean and replace with correct color fitting.
- Beware of vacumn hose(s) in the same area. I apparently split the end of one while performing this procedure and got a P0411 code via ODBII check engine light.
- Part was under $10 delivered and it took an hour or two.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
