Default coolant level light came on

does this always mean there is a leak, or does it evaporate after a while, or what?

Default Mine came on, no signs of leak...

but the overflow tank was empty. Ended up being a leak in the after-run pump. Very expensive repair...for Audi, covered under warranty (phew!)

Default add some... and keep watch on the level.

You leve must be below the line. Watch your temp gauge and check your oil dip to see if there is water on it. Doubtful.. but just in caase.

Default Does your coolant tank look empty, like the pic here?,

Took this shot when I got the RS4 engine cover...did not even notice that there was hardly any coolant there until the coolant light came on the next day!

Hope you find the leak, and that it is nothing too serious. I remember seeing lots about cracked resevoirs causing the leaks. I think the coolant is designed to leave a chalky residue to help identify the location of leaks. Might want to start with checking the resevoir. Just make sure you add some more coolant if you need to drive the car anywhere to get fixed. Keep an eye on the engine temp gauge. If running too hot, run the climate control at full blast hot!

Best of luck!

Default CAUTION: I believe the coolant is an "Audi Only" fluid. Check your manual before adding anything.

For those of you who can see the THREE other messages I deleted on this post - I seem to *really* suck at posting. Just wanted to be the first to say it.

you can also buy the "pink" coolant at a VW dealer - same coolant.
