Can anyone guide me quickly to the Coolant Temp Sensor on a 2000 A6 2.8 Avant?
In my cursury examination I did not see it popping out at me.
Also, does anyone have the part #
I would like to pick up the part and install it this afternoon.
Thanks,
Jeb

PITA, did mine on Saturday. Passenger side of the engine very close to the firewall, down deep, look for a coolant cross over pipe, 4 wires. Make sure the car is cold, pop the top off the expansion bottle to be safe, remove the air pipe, there's a 10mm bolt on the intake at the top remove it. Long flat screw driver and a flashlight. Look down and you'll see the Black clip, pop it off half way, grag with long needle nose, pull the sensor out, coolant will be everywhere put a pan under the car. Installation is reverse. Watch out the firewall has all sorts of sharp screws hanging out! If you have a VAG clear the fault code if there is one. Top up with new anti freeze. The sensor was CHEAP 5.50!!

Help... I found it all, took off the air hose, but now I can't get the ECT and clip back on.
I managed to put it on, but I apparently didn't put the clip on properly and my coolant leaked.
I found a mechanic, and although he was too busy to work on it, he told me that I had to
1) put the ECT in the housing
2) U-clip around (through?) the housing
3) and then the clip on the U-clip and the housing securely so it clicks.
And I can't do it... i just can't get one hand in there, let alone two. How did you do it?
At this point, I've given up and am going to go back to the mechanic on Monday and have him to do it for me. My hands are scarred, i have leaked coolant all over the place, and my car doesn't run.
Really bad day...
