Default coolant temperature gauge

You people are going to hate me for posting too much...

Anyway, one of the other items we had looked at during the recent shop visit was a non-working coolant temp gauge. It was supposedly fixed today, but on the way home, it wasn't working again.

Are there any known issues with coolant temp gauges on A6's?

Default ahh - does it have an extended warranty? if so, take a picture of it with

the oil temp up, water temp down. Otherwise the tech may not replace it. The bad sensor will not throw a code, so he may have trouble getting authorization to replace it

Default Mine went out at about 15,000 miles.

After the engine was fully warmed up, the gauge would fluctuate from straight up (normal) to full cold, back and forth. The dealer replaced a sensor under warranty and it's been fine ever since.

If this was a safety item, there would've been a recall. Temp sensor gone bad. Very common.
