Default Cost of changing codes on the Engine Control Module

I'm about to take in my A6 2.7TQ in for the 8k service, and I wanted to change some features for the ECM. I asked Negherbon Audi in Oakland, CA if they would do the programming, and they said they would for the low price of $48!

For those of you that did have your codes changed, what price did you pay, if any?

I also inquired about having the sport springs installed, and they said that doing so would void my warranty and they wouldn't even order them!

Default You might want to take your business elsewhere

We will change codes at least once at no charge. Of course, priority goes to our own customers.

The springs are factory - why the heck would they offer them if they are not covered under warr ?

The Audi A6 comes with several pre-programmed functions in the control module that can be accessed by using the VAG 1551/1552 tools. Your local dealer has these tools to check your car's diagnostic codes, but it also allows the dealer to make certain modifications to the default programming.

To make modifications to the factory settings, numbers are added to and subtracted from the default setting code numbers.
These codes are for cars in the North American market.

Function - Value
Add Window Up/Sunroof close, and Window
Down with remote.* +64
Add 1 touch unlock of all 4 doors, trunk -04
Remove horn honk when arming -1024
Auto lock/unlock of doors (Doors lock at 15
mph and unlock when key is removed) +32

Default Remote codes possibly?

There's a code to use the remote to control the windows and another code to automatically lock (when speed > 10 mph) and unlock the doors (when parked). I suspect these are what he's referring to.

Go To the tech site, there is a service bulletin that says 1'st time reprograming should be FREE.<ul><li><a href="http://techvw.com/audi/newtech.htm">http://techvw.com/audi/newtech.htm</a</li></ul>

I was just at Dynospotracing in Mt. View today to have a UUC short shifter and K&N air filter installed. He reprogrammed my central locking codes at no charge. Using the code 15977 my doors now lock automatically at 15 mph and unlock automatically when I stop and remove my keys. I can now also roll down the window by holding down the unclock button on my remote and roll them up when I push the lock button. The process takes all of a few minutes to do. If you bring in the car for service they need to hook up the computer to reset your service display anyways, they should reprogram the module for you at no charge.
