Default Costco Tire Warning............

We will be due for new Summers next year, was at Costco Sat. getting some things and decided to price check some new BFG KDW's. WHen they looked the tires up by car, they show that for the A6 it should use a 93Y weight rating tire and the BFG's are a 90W. They will sell me the tire, but will not install it or warrenty it. WTF, they are $10.00 cheaper than Discount for the tires, but I'll have to pay Discount for mounting, balancing, and warrenty. What a ripoff.

Talked to the shop manager, he said that just because some other shop is willing to be stupid and sell us the wrong kind of tires for our car is not his problem, but he won't do it.

Default Had a similar issue. They offered me a $10 credit to get it mounted/balanced elsewhere..

...but elsewhere it would have run $25/$30 per tire.

It was a win/lose situation.

Why would you want to buy a tire with an insufficient load rating in the first place?

Default C.Y.A.

It could be grounds to sue if any problems.I would respect their decision and get them elsewhere.

Sams Club & Audi.... Do you have Autolite sparkplugs too.

Default Tires ARE the most important piece of equipment on your car--don't skimp, ever!

Wake up, man! The Audi is ONE Heavy machine!

You should be looking for OEM load rating or better (higher) not lower, and get the highest speed rating (H or better, Z prefereably), traction (A or AA), and temp (A) you can afford!

While you're at it, throw in a Treadlife of 400+ and be done with it. Go to tirerack.com and do some research and comparing, then go to a reputable tire shop that does QUALITY work!

Tires are not something to save money on!

Default Curious...Tire Rack results show that 90W is okay on A6 4.2...

...granted I used the search for 18" tires (255/35/18) and ultra-high performance all-season tires and extreme and max performance summer tires.

Of the 25 results, 5 had 90W load ratings:
-Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R
-Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
-Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT
-Kumho Ecsta ASX
-Yokohama ADVAN S.4.

Of course, the tire you are seeking is not sold by Tire Rack. However, Discount Tire Direct carries the BFG KDW in 255/40/17 with the 94Y rating for $171 each
