I often hear of Hubcentric spacers and aftermarket wheels. Would it be safe to assume that since the Mille Miglia EV-S 18s I have on my Avant did not require such a spacer since Tirerack did not suggest them????

"hubcentricity" is achieved when the wheel's center bore fits correctly over the axle's hub without any space.
A hubcentric ring mates the centerbore of an aftermarket wheel to a specific car's hub.
i.e. Mercedes cars and wheels have a centerbore of 66.06mm and Audis have a centerbore of 57.1mm and while Audi and MB share bolt patterns of 5x112 there is ring that you need to fill in the difference of 66.06 and 57.1 to assure that the wheels sits center on the hub to eliminate vibration and wobbling.
This is the short version as I have learned it over the past few years of "wheeling and dealing".
HTH!
