Could a tiptronic (4-spoke multifunction) steering wheel be wired to work in my 04' ?

...the multifunction wheels from C6- and B7-platform cars will not work in our C5-platform cars.
The C5 multi-function steering wheel (with tiptronic buttons and radio controls) will work. You may or may not need to have a different steering angle sensor (a/k/a self-canceling ring), but you might already ahve the correct part in your car, and all you would need is a new steering wheel (and airbag if you currently have the 3-spoke wheel).

...and other harnesses, it does not look like the 2004 was pre-wired for the tiptronic function. That would also probably mean a different steering wheel control unit as well. Of course, you could hard-wire the tip into the shift lever like I did in my 2.7T, but then the buttons only work when the lever is in tip mode.

...if your 2004 has the MF SW (without tip), then you will need:
- MFSW with tip buttons and related wiring
- 618* MFSW module ($200 from clairparts.com)
*you can sell your 616 module for about $100+ to someone with a pre-2002 A6/allroad who is upgrading to the RNSE.
The swap is pretty straight forward. The 618 module replaces the 616 module near your other relay's/fuses etc...and then you VAG it for Tip function. See the docs on www.nsxjr.com for more background. That's abou it.
FYI - you WON'T need to change your self-cancelling ring at all....unless you are planning to add/remove the ESP option from your car.
Good luck!

no new SC ring is needed...or additional wiring to the tip shifter. On the 2002+ cars, the tip shifter can all be controlled via the databus between the MFSW module (618) and the transmission control module.
Maybe you should reread this document again for some background.
Thanks for playing ...but your overzealousness has once again lead to the posting of incorrect information.<ul><li><a href="http://www.nsxjr.com/docs/MFSW.pdf">http://www.nsxjr.com/docs/MFSW.pdf</a</li></ul>
