Re: Could you change from halogen to xenon headlights?
There are two ways to do it:
The easy way (because you can buy a conversion kit on demand), is to use a kit to convert your existing housings. The downside, you will be using xenon bulbs with halogen projectors-not an efficient combo. OEM xenon housings use dedicated
xenon projector optics.
The better way is to find a pair of A6 or allroad
OEM xenon housings. It's plug and play, the vehicle's existing harness plugs snap right into the back. Except for having to pop off the bumper cover to install them, it's pretty straight forward installation. The trick is finding a pair that are undamaged, with unbroken mounting tabs.

Ditto. Alex, Myself and one other has done this mod...

The housings are pure plug n' play. You can expect to spend $450-$600 on both headlights (including the xenon bulbs, ballasts and projector components). There are always auto salvage shops posting these lights on ebay. It will take a few months but, you will eventually find a matched set (I waited 4 months until I had a matched set).
The only caveat is that the auto-levelling motors will not fuction (the OEM Xenon setup communicates with a sensor in the rear of the car). Mine have been installed and working for 8+ months - no issues.
Here is a pix of my install. Can you tell which one is Xenon?
Good luck!

It's easily done, I did it to my '00 A6 2.8 30V last year. I actually sold my original... (more)
...halogen lights to another Audiworld member not too long ago. HID lights are the best and they really light up the road. I upgraded to HIDs using all OEM Audi parts which I purchased new from a dealer. No special tools are required, and the installation should take no longer than 2 hours.
