Cricket chirping noise from the front upon acceleration

Hi all,
I am worried about the noise I'm having from my 2001 2.7T tiptronic:
- "cricket chirping" / warble noise from the dash
- occurs almost every time upon significant acceleration, when the car tilts towards the rear, usually at ~2.5-3K RPM
- also the same chirping, though usually very brief, can be heard after accelerator is released and the car gets back to even position
- audible outside if window is open
- does not occur at all when idle or cruising
- not affected by any bumps on the road
- the noise does not go away after the car is warmed up, though it somewhat reduces
- transmission feels smooth and solid: no unusual hesitation or play
Initially I suspected the turbos, but the fact that the sound occurs not only upon acceleration, but also when acceleration ends, makes me think it's rather related to suspension or transmission (e.g. CV joints?).
I've searched the forums and found many people reporting similar symptoms, but too many different causes are suggested and I could not identify the likely cause for my case.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The cricket noise is one I have -- in my car (02 S6) it's a fan in the HVAC mounted behind/near the glovebox... in COLD (sub 35 degrees) weather when it gets going it chirps like a cricket... I stop it by turning down the fan control on the HVAC control unit. As my car is CPO I'm going to try and have them replace it -- but of course it's intermittent so making it chirp for the dealer will be a trick. Not an uncommon problem (STF). Quick check --turn off/down the HVAC when it happens next...

but it didn't only occur during acceleration/deceleration. It was intermittent, I noticed it after the car was fully warmed up and had been driven for a while. As stated, turn off the HVAC when it happens to confirm.
