Default Grapeking is right. You don't need to break the joint to replace a boot??

All you have to do is get the axle stub/splines out of the hub...Grapeking right.

Some people turn the wheel to lock and then remove the bolts holding the axle to the trans flange, then remove the axle bolt from the wheel/hub side and slide the entire axle out.

Am I missing something?

Default You have to remove the CV from the axle to slip the new boot over it.

the small end is in the middle of the axle, the CV is in the way.

Default I fought with mine for a while

I put the puller on, cranked it down tight with a impact then used a breaker bar until the puller snapped off.

I put it back on and again it snapped off...could not figure out why it was not popping loose.

Then on the third attempt I grabbed the half shaft and it fell out of the knuckle!

Probably came loose early on.

A lot of times get the puller cranked down good and give the part some light taps with a hammer.

I've taken off stuck rotors like that. Crank down the puller, stand off to the side, throw a blanket around the rotor and give it a few smacks on the backside.

I started using the blanket after I launched a rotor and puller about 6ft off a car once.
