My 2000 4.2 a has rattle or rubbing sound coming from behind the wood trim above the glovebox. This occurs on less than perfect road surfaces and I'm not certain if it's the wood itself rubbing against another surface or something further back. Just wondering if any of you have the same noise and how you may have corrected it. I appreciate your input.

fortunately not at the same time.
In the hot weather, I have a noise above the glove box. If I press on the wood trim, it stops. Dealer can't pinpoint the cause.
As the weather is getting colder, I am getting a noise from under the dash in the vacinity of the defroster vent. Pushing down on the vent and dash does nothing to help. Coincidentally our '93 100CS has the same noise and has had it for years. Dealer can't pinpoint cause in either car.
HELP.

It takes time and patience. It takes moving things, tightening- and loosening things. Start with recognition of the sound itself. Is it plastic, or metal, or wiring, or what? Sound travels. Are you SURE it is where you think it is? Do little things to fix. I had a tinkling sound in my right seat. The mechanic was going to start with pulling the seat to see where it was coming from. I felt around underneath and peered with my flashlight. About the third try I got it. Total time to fix- about two hours. Pushing and banging on things sometimes helps. Try to do some movement that makes the sound or the rattle while car is in the garage. Nothing is ever fixed while moving. Unless it gets fixed by repair after the wreck.
If all else fails, start with about two inches of bourbon and a hammer..........
