Default Dealer wants $65 for oil change

I am in between free maint visits (17K) and need an oil change before the cold hits. My car is a 02 2.7 tip. Grease Monkey did not want to mess with the undercarriage cover and WalMart does not carry my oil filter. Who can do a simple oil change to hold me until 20K? Is 5W30 correct?

Thanks,
Drew

Default ummm - --these cars are VERY touchy to oil, so here is what I say

Use Mobile 1 0-30. Always use Mobile 1 from now on, with "0" as the 1st number. I use 0-30 in the winter, 0-40 in the summer

Go buy it at pep boys or autozone. You need 7 quarts

Take the oil to the dealer, and let them do it.

this is not a Chevy, and no offense, but using a filer from walmart is not a good idea on a $45,000 car with a twin turbo, multivalve, intercooled, high tech engine

It is worth the piece of mind

Default Check your local inde shops....

Was $65 just for oil or did it include the filter as well? Get to know your service advisor well. I've established a relationship with mine such that he charges me the same for regular services (oil changes, tire rotations) as they charge for their domestic car service. $65 isn't too bad if that includes the filter. But then again the price of the filter on my 4.2 is almost $40

Dallas is right...Take your own oil. My dealer charges $8.64/qt for mobil 1

Default You think that's expensive? Last visit, my service writer quoted $250 for....

...an oil change on a boxter. I could hear the customer have a heart attack over the phone.....

That's brutal, but it is a b*tch getting to the Boxster engine compartment!

0W is best if you can get it. I doubt 5W would be a problem unles it's below zero.

Default Actually I preferred 5W...

If you go synthetic 5W is just fine IMHO. If your car were a 2000 I might lean towards 0W.

In my experience the engine runs a little quieter when using 5W instead of 0W.

5W30 is SO much easier to find, and if synthetic is still miles above the Audi standard.
