I'm still trying to decide on my A6. I was about to order a 2.7t at 1500 over invoice until I found a 2000 2.8 with 6000 miles on it with the same colors and options that is going for just under invoice. There is about a $5000 diference between cars. That is alot. I know I need to pick the car I want and go for it. I was just wondering if that deal for the 2.8 demo was a good one. Any input would be appreciated! I'm still leaning toward the 2.7t, although my DH probably thinks the 2.8 is sufficient for me since I only do local driving....but i'm sure he'd buy the 2.7t for himself! Ha!
Thanks!

I realize that $5000 is a substantial difference, but I think the 2.8 model should be priced more than just a few hundred bucks below invoice. 6000 demo miles makes it a bona fide used car. I would also be concerned about the kind of treatment the 2.8 demo has received (proper break-in, etc.). The price on the 2.7T seems like a good deal. 6-speed or Tiptronic?

Having just gotten a 2.7T - Tiptronic - it's awesome. Much improved over the 2.8. The flat torque curve and the smothness of the engine works so much better with the Tip.
Get the 2.7T - you'll never regret it.

If you would say that 4% over invoice was a good price on a new 2.8 - that's about $1400. DIscount 6000 miles by 0.30 / mile to take off 1800 or so. If the warranty would be treated as a new car a reasonable price might be 500 under invoice. That is pretty heavy usage - I'd want a little more off to feel comfortable.
$1500 over invoice is a very good price on a 2.7T if it has the popular options (roof, leather, xenon HIDs, etc). What part of the country are you in?
My personal preference was the 2.7T - I picked mine up today. After test driving one last Friday I cancelled my order for a 2.8Q. It really depends on how you drive, however. The 2.8Q with a 5 speed manual felt quite reasonable - the big difference is straight line acceleration. I didn't test drive a tip on the 2.8 and would expect an additional penalty. I wound up spending more than I had planned but feel happy with my decision. They are both fine cars.

Thanks for the input on the demo deal. Doesn't sound that appealing anymore. After talking with my dh, it looks like we will order the 2.7T melange/melange with convenience package and leather. We are in the Chicago area.

especially if you're factoring stick/Tip and quattro into the mix. I'm warning ya, the base 2.8 Tip is not a powerful car; torque doesn't exactly knock you back into the seat. It cruises beautifully at extra-legal speeds, but it's tedious sometimes on the on-ramps.
