Default Degreasing Engine Bay

I've been planning to degrease my engine bay with a 1:10 dilution of simple green and dressing up the plastics with some super vrt.

I've read that I should cover my alternator, distributor cap, battery, and any other exposed electronics before getting anything wet. I also plan to use a mister of some sort, or at least avoid spraying the engine directly.

I will also avoid shocking the engine by spraying it when it is hot.

The only problem is I don't know where my alternator or distributor cap are. Is there a guide out there that I may have missed? Thanks!

There is no distributor cap as they have coil packs and electronic ignition. and the alternator is so far down you cant even see it .

I blast mine with power washer all the time and have NEVER had an issue .

I just take it for a long drive after and make sure it is all dried up before i park it.

Watch out for any power transistors/heat sinks. There is a dielectric grease between the power transister and the heat sink, often voltage multipliers for high energy ignitions.
Point is that degreasing the engine will dilute/remove the dielectric grease....ask me how I know this.....
So cover up with tin foil or a ziplock bag electronics with heat sinks. I think the fan control module may have one...

I would never use Simple Green under the hood of any car I liked or owned. In fact, I'd reserve Simple Green for cleaning garage floors, etc.

Search on "Simple Green" and "aluminum" There are much better alternatives depending on what degree of dirt/grease you are attacking, Vu.

i washed my engine bay a week or so ago. it went from sham-oww, to sham-wow lol. i took off all my plastic covers. and sprayed with a garden hose with a rain setting. i then sprayed with a 50-50 water simple green mix. scrubbed with large brush. then with smaller toothbrush. i rinsed and repeated 2 more times. wiped it down with paper towels/rags. and ran it for about 20 mins. everything was good. then i started it the next day and i had a CEL. i scanned it . cam position sensor. i cleared my codes and im good to go.

I just take the plastics off and clean them off the car and wipe down whatever I can in the engine bay. I just don't have the ***** to put hose to the motor.

I'm usually the unlucky one that winds up in the worst case scenarios, lol.
