DIY to replace front drivers O2 sensor
Any one know if there is a write up to replace the front drivers O2 Sensor on a 2003 3.0 A6. I bet its a bear trying to get at it. One of the heater circuits is bad. or any method so the ECU thinks the heater circuit is still there to pass inspection??

Just got done doing both sides front sensors (2001 a^ 2.7T). Not as bad as I thought. I bought the 22mm socket set from Amazon and used a 2 foot 1/2" drive extension. Just had to move the overflow reservoir and the tube to the cam position sensor and it went pretty easy. Scratched the heck out of my arms reaching down to install the socket, but it'll heal. I used the splice on Bosch sensor. Quite a bit cheaper and easy to install.

Agree. Use a crow's foot socket and don't skimp on the extensions. In one case I remember reaching across from the opposite side--don't recall which as I did both fronts together. Tape the socket to the last extension. Mechanic's gloves are a great comfort, if they had an elbow-length version you'd use them for this job! But seriously, it's straightforward, just awkward.

any difference between the 2.7 and the 3.0 engines?? I have both the socket and the wrench that I can try . how hard was it to get the thing to turn. I hoping I don't need torches to get the thing out like on my A4. I hope I can just take some stuff off in the engine compartment and see the thing well enough to get something on it. I just hope it comes off farley easy. HA HA ..

I'm in N.Va, so your rust may vary. But it wasn't frozen. Just a 1/2" rachet or breaker bar, and maybe saying (ahem) "please" once. The trick is getting in there, not breaking it loose. And you can see them on the 2.7T.
