Default Do basic Nav and Nav Plus use the same data CD's ?

If you got a car with Nav plus into the USA could you get data CD's for it from some other source if the standard Nav CD's don't work ?

I dont see how they would use the same CD. Nav Plus would have a graphics interface of some sort that would be different and additional from the digital data used for the simple directions on the Nav system.

I am not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination, so I am sure there is someone in this forum who can give you a better more knowledgeable answer than I :-)

Default A while back Ernst (our European contributor) offered to test out a US Nav CD in his Nav Plus System

Did anything come out of this?

The offer is still valid - I didn't hear from anyone interested in this test so far.
If you want to go with it: just send me a copy of your Nav CD ROM (also possible to send data files as an attachment by mail over the weekend or over night - I have a flat rate access agreement... Plese let us agree on the exact time schedule for this bulk data transfer in advance!) and I will report about the tests here... I know for sure that European Nav CD's are from Teledata and according to their homepage they do not supply US map data. However this does not mean that the map data CD's are not compatible because I think there are only two or three formats beeing used worldwide for these systems.

Default Well I think its true....

Since the graphics are different for the Nav Plus the CD is must have some more code or different code than the Nav. This is most likely true because I don't think they would have unnecessary code or sectors of Euro code and USA code on the Nav CD. But anything is possible right?

Default Cost of digitizing the roads is most expensive...

...and therefore I assume that the CD ROM are the same for full function nav systems (I think most other makes then VW/Audi have map systems nowadays...) - they just do not use all info on the CD ROM for the simple nav system w/o map display.
BTW you can switch off either the semi-graphics in the trip computer display in the dash board OR the map display in the center console OR use both at the same time with the NavPlus. In either way it stays fully functional (and some time directs you the wrong way...).

Default IF this is true then maybe getting a Nav+ system from Europe installed would work...

Also does anyone know if you can add the regular nav system after the fact i.e just installing the dash component/cd-rom and antenna?

Default Porsche use the same system.. and they have DATA disc with FULL MAP on it in US

my friend have a Porsche Carrera 4 ... and it have full map data disc. It is also base of Blankrupt system and get the data from navtech.com

WHICH interestingly ARE DIVIDED into the same region separation as AUDI Disc!

Before my S4 got the disc, i borrow my friend's disc and try to read it on my s4... but it does not work... prob. there is some system specific stuff that it expect.
