Do front rotors need to be replaced when replacing pads?

I know it all depends on the condition of the rotors - but what is the factory's recommendation? Does it recommend changing the rotors whenever pads are changed?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Unless you can either 1. feel vibration under braking, or 2. the rotors are worn out of spec, which usually takes 100k+ miles.
If you are experience mild vibration under braking, a lot of times the rotors can be saved by scuffing them with a scotch brite pad.

spec, it is the discretion of the customer. If a rotor is worn below minimum spec then most shops will not just replace the pads. In any case its recommended to do everything at once because by the time your needing pads those rotors are going to be so close to being gone anyway.

Eventually you will need to replace them, but it should not be necessary for a while. Don't believe all the hype about replacing everything.

my shops are very close to replacement cost just to turn rotors, then, you have a rotor that is very nearly fully worn out. why not just spend the coin to get new rotors?

its not worth fooling with. Now if the rotor has only a few thousand miles of wear on them, then ok, but if they have 25, 30K plus on them, fagetta bout it.

silly. FWIW, you should be able to get the 312mm rotors for WAY less than $100.. not sure about the larger ones..

Only if needed. At 170K and on the third set of front pads (not Audi)the solid rotors had never been resurfaced. Never any vibration from them.
