Does it help to keep the interior cooler?
I used to keep it vented, now I tend to keep it closed. It still got VERY hot inside with it vented. I went out and got a sunshade, and even with the sunroof closed it is WAY noticeably cooler inside. I'm wondering if sunshade plus vented sunroof will keep it even cooler. My concern was that if i left it vented all the time...then environmental wear and tear on the interior would be VERY high and make the materials age much faster....what do you guys think?
Those of you who dont have a sunshade...GO GET ONE

Which isn't usually an issue here in La La Land. But hot interiors sure is!
My alarm doesn't care about the roof vented, it hates open windows.
As for interior wear, what is going to get in through a vented sunroof? Stray vapors?

Most accumulated heat comes from direct sunlight so the shades will have the most effect. Direct sunlight on surfaces heat those surfaces and anything they are attached to.
Just cracking the roof won't do much because there would be little if any circulation to remove the hot air from the cabin.

with the shade completely or partly closed. This will cut down on dust, and fading from the sun. There are small vents in the front of the sunroof shade which allows the hot air to escape. I never leave my sunroof completely open when I am not in my car.
