Wow a post resurrected from 2001!
There is always "a way" but it is expensive. It is puzzling that you are having this problem because most reports are that the Mk3 TT seats are great. The BEST seats I ever had were sport seats in a 2006 A6 Prestige. Our current 2011 Q7 Prestige seats do not look as impressive but they are really good on a long haul. ( We regularly do 675 mile runs to see grandsons and arrive fresh and pain free). My current S5 is good but not as good as those two. I had a Cayman, and a Toyota Tundra and wife had an RX 300. For our bodies none of those were as comfortable.

So let it be resurrected again. I actually have chronic back pain (recovering from artificial disc replacement as I type this). I had a 2019 VW Tiguan for a while. I went on a 10 hour road trip and by hour 3 my back was killing me. I never knew how uncomfortable a seat was until that car.
flash forward to present. I’m looking at the Audi E-Tron and while I find the seat more comfortable than I remember the VW - the dealer tells me it’s a pretty firm seat and he has to get up and move every few hours if he is going on long trips.
We have a Volvo XC90 right now that has some of the most comfortable seats I’ve been in.

I'll chime in with the understanding that all of our bodies are different and we all have opinions. Our 2 current Audis (2000 A6 4.2 with Sport seats and 2012 Q5 w/o sport seats) are only mediocre. Both are good for an hour or so, but not fabulous after that. We took the A6 on a 13 hour run to AZ and my wife vowed never to drive in my car again.
Fast forward to the newer car in the stable (a 2013 BMW 528 with M-sport package and sport seats) - we took it on a 10 hour road trip to Nevada and were both amazed at the support of the seats; only evident when we got out of the car and realized we were completely fresh and not fatigued at all.
Just another 2 backs and behinds into the equation.
