Does anyone here genuinely think the Avantissimo should have been produced?

Yeah, it was kinda cool in its own way...but realistically only about 4 people would have ever purchased that thing...it was a huge wagon that was quite garish really and would have been at least in the $70k to $80k+ range. An interesting concept, IMO, but not a reasonable production car.

The demand for SUVs makes so little logical sense (need space + hate the minivan image = 6,000 lb. trucks that get 8 mpg); and the big wagon/avant would seem to address the need and avoid the bug-a-boo.
When image and ego are involved, you just can't tell how it's going to sell.

and a whole load of gadgets and I'd be up for that I guess.
Not sure about the Pikes Peak concept, it's kind of like an "Allvantissimo". Something that size with more of the new A8 styling and a more handling-oriented ride height would flick my switches, for sure.
What I need is an RS8 Avant, although an RS8 Sedan would be cool as well.

Price would probably have been @90 to 110K, given the engine size (430 bhp 4.2L V8 Biturbo) and other features. Minor refinements needed to exterior and interior styling, but this unique car needs to stand out from the crowd. It was aimed at the level above the A8 4.2 obviously. Not a car for the masses, eggheads/coneheads, and people having second thoughts about paying for the RS6. Don't compare with Chrysler's knockoff... it is in a whole different price category.
Whatever the opinions on it, it would have added a useful product to Audi's stable for positioning purposes.

http://www.classicdriver.de/uk/magazine/3100.asp?id=10837&section=5</a

like the Steppenwolf, but no it doesn't need to see the light of production. But bits of it will surface.
I think putting the V8 in the allroad got all that out of Audi's system.
