Current NavPlus is CD based, but VW is now using DVD based systems in
Golf, Passat and Phaeton so assume it wont be long (MY03?) before Audi starts to use them as well.
Chris Brown has this system in his new S8 so he can tell you what it is like to live with

It's quicker than getting out a map book! I think this is great for the UK...(more)
In the UK, the entire country fits on a single CD with fuel stations, shopping centers, tourist information places, selected restaurants, and of course Audi dealerships!
I've notice that a route calculation for somewhere under 100 miles can be comepleted within 15-20 seconds, even in rural areas with a lot of road options to choose from. It's noticably slower sorting out a route around 300-350 miles (the longest route I've tried to program yet!), which I guess is down to the greater number of choices to be made. This doesn't really bother me as you just start driving anyway while the route calculates as you get a direction pointer in the DIS to give you a rough idea.
The route recalculation for missed turns is much faster, as the unit only needs to figure out the fastest way to get you back onto the nearest major road on the previously planned route. Tailbacks can take up to 30-60 seconds to figure out a way round if they are quite a way ahead of your current position.
Overall, I'd say it's a clever system, but I can see where mainland European and US drivers would want a DVD based system. With the low price of DVD readers and mastering now, I don't see why this can't be done easily and with no significant cost increase on the unit.

I don't really know...
one day I was just reading some stuff over there, and i read a thread about someone fitting a euro nav system(with a screen) into a golf or jetta...and somehow he/she got the US maps to work with it or was very close...
