drive my brother-in-law's '04 Mercedes 320E CDI - that's the diesel engine, of which only about 2500 are coming to the U.S. I had a chance to drive the car extensively over several days (including one 5-hour drive). I was impressed with the engine - very quiet for a diesel, low emissions, TONS of torque, superb fuel economy. On the 5 hour drive I averaged 70 MPH and 34-35 MPG through rolling hills. Pretty impressive.

The Benz has enough torque that if you floor it from a stop you can easily break the tires loose. I didn't expect that in a 4500+ pound rear-drive luxury sedan.

So it got me wondering if this option existed on the new A6. If it exists in Europe, maybe we'd see it here someday?

I drove a 1.9L A4 TDI in Europe over the course of 3 weeks. It has a ton of torque, and got great gas milage. I was doing 3-5 hour drives on the Autobahn, and Autostrada @ 200 KPH with no problem. I would be first in line if they brought them state side!
