Default Does an ECU Chip actually store any day to day information about the car (A6 2.7t)? (long)

I'm interested in getting a performance chip. APR sells the entire "chip with spare engine computer" for $1099. Or they will re-program your existing chip for $499 (I may be off on the pricing).

So my question is in regard to the $1099 option: Does the ECU keep track of miles driven or other performance related data? If it does, the dealer would be suspicious if when I swap the stock chip back in before servicing, it hasn't accumulated any significant mileage.

For me, the $1099 option only seems useful if I can swap the chip in and out without the dealer knowing about it and quibbling over warranty issues.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Default Wait on the chip, Garrett will be introducing a new chip

that has a switch to change the settings at will. I think that there was some posts earlier about where the mileage is stored. Scroll back some.

Default The ECU does not store the mileage (more)

The miles are kept in a memory chip that's part of the instrument panel. You can switch ECUs without affecting the mileage.

Default Re: Wait on the chip, Garrett will be introducing a new chip

APR announced that they too would have this feature next month some time. They posted the announcement yesterday in this forum.

Hope I'm talking about the same thing you are!

Default I think APR does one and GIAC will do one

both seem to over features over the older style chip, I apologize, I thought you were looking into an older style chip and not the new one by APR. If anything maybe it would be worth the wait to see how these two chips will stack up against each other. Let them iron out the first time production bugs.

Default Got an answer from APR (Audi Performance Racing)

To quote their reply to my question that I e-mailed to them (re: mileage and chip swapping):

"No the ECU does not store things like mileage or anything like that. Many customers do this when they go to the dealers. Feel free to give us a ring.

Thanks
